
International Glass Centre
The newly refurbished centre of excellence caters for a wide range of students from all parts of the world. It has gained a reputation for being the only centre of its kind offering a hands-on practical approach to kiln, cold, stained and hotglass blowing, whilst still retaining a design input and versatility to suit enthusiasts, studio crafts persons and graduates in glass.
Courses Available
In addition to glass facilities being available to all our level 2 and level 3 art and design students, fashion students and international students, the following courses are also available for adults:
- One year association in glass
- Personal programme in glass with ceramics or fashion or textiles or drawing skills
- City and Guilds creative techniques, 3D glass
- NCFE hot glass
- NCFE bead making (jewellery or mini-sculptures)
In addition to the main courses there are also LINK courses with local schools, classes for Supported Learning, the disabled and those with learning difficulties, evening classes for hot glass blowing.
Equipment & Facilities
The Centre is well equipped with a range of machines and furnaces, including the following:
- Glass making facilities: furnace, 2 glory holes, 2 glass-makers chairs, a lehr, moulds, press and hand tools.
- Lampworking facilities: 6 burners and 6 kilns. lampworking facilities: 6 burners and 6 kilns.
- Decorative and cold glass working machinery including sand blasting cabinets, diamond drills, diamond mitre wheels, diamond saw, engraving lathes, flatting and polishing facilities.
- Shared design room and Computer Suite with networked PCs, Internet Access and Software for 3D Design work.
