by Dudley College on 06 December 2010 08:45

Students from Dudley CollegeStudents from Dudley College held a Red Ribbon Day on World Aids Day with all proceeds going to Summit House in Dudley.  Summit House provides a safe environment for people affected by and living with HIV/AIDS in Dudley and Sandwell areas.

During the year workers from Summit House visited Dudley College as part of Learner Safety Week to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS, with students learning that 35 million people worldwide are affected by the HIV virus.

The visit inspired students to take part in the fund raising activities with twenty students who have recently been nominated for the REACH programme for gifted and talented collecting donations from around the college in return for red ribbons.

Further students from the Step Up Horticulture Programme helped to run fund raising stalls in the main hall on Broadway Campus with a range of fairground games such as hoopla, skittles, giant jenga, connect 4 and tin can alley.

The Student Union also supported the event by giving students the opportunity to take play games such as Guitar Hero.

Jane Langford Mentor Manager and Tutorial Support Officer at Dudley College who organised the event said, "A big thank you goes to all the students involved in this fund raising event they raised £368 during the day."
