Lecturers Visit Germany - 23/05/2007 10:57:45
"1000 Glass miles: From Stourbridge to Frauenau." A celebration of four decades of glassmaking at Dudley College's International Glass Centre in Brierley Hill.
Lecturers from Dudley College's International Glass Centre Denise Hunt and John Taylor, along with UK Trade & Investment advisor Terry Wood, were delighted to be invited to Germany to join in with the 80th birthday celebrations of world renowned glass artist Erwin Eisch, a pioneer of the glass studio movement and recent exhibitor of glass at the Red House Glass Cone as part of "Glass Collaborations" - an exhibition promoting the work of West Midland Glass Makers.
Denise, John and Terry presented Erwin with a plate designed by College member of staff Stephen Foster and decorated by one of its post graduate students, Frances Traynor.
"We were very honoured to join Erwin's family and friends in celebration of his birthday. Erwin is a strong supporter of West Midlands glass and has offered his gallery in Frauenau to be used for a high profile exhibition in August, which amongst others will feature the work of regional glassmakers Martin Andrews and Jackie Cooley" said Denise Hunt, one of the Glass lecturers.
'Glass 1000 miles' is an exhibition sponsored by UK Trade and Investment and Advantage West Midlands and will feature new works created by West Midlands' glassmakers who have benefited from high-level skills training at Dudley College's International Glass Centre in Brierley Hill. This is just one of four overseas initiatives that the International Glass Centre has undertaken to promote the work of successful graduates who practise their craft not just in the West Midlands but throughout the world.
"We are proud of the achievements of our graduates and are dedicated to supporting the community of glassmakers." said Denise.
The exhibition 'Glass 1000 miles' will travel out to Germany in August 2007.
