Middle Eastern Partnership Success for Dudley College

Dudley College is celebrating after winning the British Council's 'International Partnership of the Year' Award.
The prestigious award, presented at the 'Bringing the Learning Home' conference in Morocco, recognises the achievements of Dudley College and their partner in Yemen, the Technical Industrial Institute (TII). The two colleges met in 2010, as part of a British Council Skills for Employability project, which aimed to develop TII's quality assurance and employer engagement systems.

Director of Worldwide Operations, Sanjeev Ohri, said "We are honoured to receive this award, and are overjoyed that our partnership has been recognised in this way. The first phase of the project has encountered a number of challenges, especially during the Arab spring, but TII has risen above them all. In fact, they have exceeded all expectations and we eager to continue the relationship in future."

Now, having completed phase one of the project, TII have established a dedicated quality unit, teaching observation process and 'learner voice' office, greatly expanding the training and support services available to their students. This project was funded by the British Council, the UK's leading provider of cultural and educational opportunities. The Council's Skills for Employability programme addresses the demand for skills in a global economy so that national educational and training systems are better able to respond to labour market demands and learner needs.

Staff from Dudley College have mentored their colleagues at TII through this process, with many of Dudley's systems being replicated in Yemen, both in TII and at other colleges eager to duplicate TII's success.
These plans are already in place, with Dudley College providing training around strategic planning and operational development. The project has also attracted interest from the Yemeni Minister of Education, who earlier this year met with Sanjeev and Dudley's Principal, Lowell Williams, to discuss how to roll out the project's success across Yemen.

The Partnership of the Year Award is the culmination of Dudley College's international work over the last three years, which has seen the college bring itself to the forefront of vocational training consultancy in the world market. Together with projects in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Tunisia and South Africa, the partnership with TII lays the foundation for further expansion of the college's international work, including rebranding as Dudley Worldwide.
