College's Peter Jones Enterprise Academy opens its doors to aspiring entrepreneurs

Up and down the country, Peter Jones Enterprise Academies are on the hunt to find the country's best and brightest young people with the ambition to go far. Now young people from across the Black Country have the opportunity to find out more about being a budding entrepreneur at Dudley College's Academy.

The Level 3 Enterprise and Entrepreneurship course focuses on developing the essential skills for successful performance in working life and adopts the "learning by doing" approach to training, which allows students to take their futures into their own hands. The course lasts for one year and is free to 16 – 18 year olds.

Harry Beddow, from Kingswinford who started the course in September, explained "Every day on this course is different; it's really interesting and exciting. We get to visit exhibitions, hear guest speakers, visit employers, and back at college this is all backed up with master classes, business challenges and pitches for employment and investment.

"I'm planning to rent out sports and camping equipment to people so they won't need to buy everything to enjoy the outdoor life and hobbies. I've learnt some really interesting things since the course started and it's really helping me to understand the world of business and how to make my business stand out and be successful."
Seba Razzak, from Halesowen who also joined the Enterprise and Entrepreneurship course in September is already planning her businesses idea, which she has taken from her cultural background "I'm planning to launch my own online fashion store of modest clothing for the woman of today with religious rules. There's a gap in the markets at the moment, and the course is helping me to get the skills and confidence to hopefully make my business a success."

"By bringing the boardroom to the classroom, our Peter Jones Enterprise Academy gives students the ability and confidence to set out as an entrepreneur in their own right." Explained Business Enterprise Manager, Victoria Greaves, "Lots of young people have an abundance of ambition and dream of running their own business, but they aren't sure how to channel this energy and talent into something real and successful. Our course does just that. It rounds them as people and gives the skills they need to stand out in the commercial world."

Founded by entrepreneur and star of BBC Dragon's Den, Peter Jones CBE, the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy believes that everyone has the potential to achieve their dreams.  Through the specialised course in enterprise and entrepreneurship at Dudley College, it aims to give young people the skills and confidence to turn their ambitions into reality.
