College Wins Regional International Trade Award
Dudley College's international team is celebrating after securing a prestigious award for its wide-reaching work across the globe. The Black Country training provider was recently recognised at a regional level by the business community at the Midlands Insider International Trade Awards, which took place at the National Motorcycle Museum.
The inaugural Midlands Insider International Trade Awards have been introduced by the well-known business publisher to showcase the diversity and quality of work being undertaken by all types of organisations across the region.
Dudley College was nominated for the Education category, alongside two other training providers, but won the award for its work in supporting, building and helping to deliver vocational skills throughout the Middle East and other countries.
A number of on-going projects have seen college experts providing advice, training and examples of best practice to countries in the process of establishing or developing vocational training programmes.
The overseas work has involved members of the college's senior management team, including Principal Lowell Williams, delivering leadership and management training to education professionals in Saudi Arabia. The college has also provided enterprise training to young entrepreneurs in Kuwait, leading to sister projects in Libya and Egypt, as well as projects around Engineering, Construction, Training the Trainer and Quality Assurance.
Dudley College is also involved in projects in China, India, Spain, Yemen, Oman, Tunisia and Bahrain. The college's main emphasis is exporting education abroad, and this has involved partnerships with other education institutes and, more importantly, local, national and international employers.
Director of Worldwide Operations at the college, Sanjeev Ohri, said: "It was a privilege to win this award. It recognises the college's continuing commitment, increasing investment and achievement in exporting education overseas. Our programmes are innovative and exciting and it's extremely rewarding to see how our educational expertise and experience is being received by the wide range of nationalities we work with."
"We had some very strong entries for these awards, such as Dudley College, which goes to show how seriously overseas trade is being taken today," says Kurt Jacobs, editor at Midlands Business Insider. "With economic growth in emerging markets far outstripping those closer to home, our winners are stealing a march on their competitors by seeking international business opportunities."
The event saw 27 organisations from across the region battle it out at the black tie event, created to celebrate and encourage the Midlands’ drive for exporting excellence and achievements in attracting inward investment.
