Tesco helps Fashion students take to the catwalk

Feb 15 2012

The new Tesco store in Dudley and fashion students from Dudley College are putting together an exciting Fashion Showcase evening on Thursday 23 February 2012 at 7pm at the college’s Broadway site. Tickets for the event are now on sale, with all proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Society and Marie Curie charities.

Working in partnership with the college, Tesco is sponsoring the event and providing clothing from its in-house Florence & Fred range, along with goods from the store for the students to use in their designs and creations.

The showcase features an ‘up-cycling’ collection called ‘Making the ordinary extraordinary’ which uses innovative ways to turn household items into cutting-edge clothing. The ‘Love your Tesco T-shirt’ collection will show how the fashion students have individually customised t-shirts based on a ‘love is...’ theme. Students have also used Tesco’s own clothing range, putting together clothing, jewellery and accessories to show how the audience can ‘Get the Florence and Fred Look’.

Centre Manager, Ben Gamble, who runs the fashion course at the college, explained: “We are really excited to be working with Tesco on the fashion showcase as it gives our students the hands-on experience of putting together a fashion show for a well-known household brand such as Tesco.

“We need lots of people to come along to the evening, enjoy the fashion showcase and help us raise money for charity. I can promise you the collections we’re designing are very exciting and certainly add a twist to what you’d expect to see from Tesco!

Sue Goodby, Community Champion at the Dudley Tesco store said “Tesco is all about supporting the community we operate in. Working with Dudley College is a great way for us to assist young people and the Fashion Show demonstrates how we can help make something special happen. It’s a win-win situation for us and the fashion student, and one of a series of on-going things we are working on with the college.”

Tickets cost just £1 and are available from Dudley College and Tesco Dudley Customer Service Desk. Refreshments are available on the evening and a raffle will help to raise money for charity. For more information contact Dudley College on 01384 363 517.
