Talented sports students win awards
Six talented sports students from Dudley College have been recognised at the annual Dudley Schools Sports awards evening. Three of the students won awards for sporting excellence and the others for their contribution to sport through volunteering, leadership and coaching.
A record number of sports students from Dudley College were nominated for awards with the final selection being made by the Schools association based on meeting strict criteria and beating opposition from the regions other colleges and sixth forms.
Dudley College Principal Lowell Williams said, "We are extremely proud of our students' achievements. There is a wealth of sporting talent at Dudley College and this awards ceremony is a fantastic way to celebrate. Taking six awards shows just how gifted our students are, proving Dudley College is the place to study and pursue your sporting interests."
Sport tutor Simon King said, "The highlight of the evening was student Chad Rhodes who was presented with the overall award for Sporting Excellence for being the outstanding performer in the whole area. Chad's achievements in throwing the hammer for Great Britain were recognised by selectors as he was given this accolade ahead of the other 35 award winners."
