Dudley Sixth Students Celebrate A Level Results
Dudley Sixth’s A level students are celebrating as their excellent performance over the past two years has delivered an exceptional set of results by achieving a 98% pass rate, equal to the national rate.
The class of 2014 has achieved a 100% pass rate in 27 of the 33 subjects taught.
After relocating to Dudley Sixth, on Ednam Road, in September 2011, this year’s A level students have been able to access a range of specialist facilities across the Dudley Learning Quarter to complete their studies.
These additional resources, alongside the staff expertise and support on offer at Dudley Sixth, have ensured that students studying the arts have also flourished by securing 100% pass rates in music, fine art, drama and dance. Whilst students studying English, history, sociology, law, economics and psychology have once again been very successful this year.
This year’s fantastic results have also seen a rise in the number of students studying and securing good grades in the STEM subjects (science and maths), which supports the national drive to increase skill levels in these areas.
The wide range of A levels on offer, together with the quality of the teaching and support available, has made it possible for some students who may not traditionally have considered A levels to succeed and progress onto higher education.
Most students plan to progress onto university and have accepted places at a range of prestigious universities such as Aston, Bangor, Birmingham, Bristol, Chester, Coventry, Hull, Keele and Leicester to study at degree level and follow a successful career path.
Amongst the Dudley Sixth cohort are a number who have attained A* and A grades in several subjects, including Mehmed Bajramovic, aged 18 from Wolverhampton who has scooped A* grades in Maths and Geology, and a grade A in Chemistry. Whilst Ellen Bishop, aged 18 from Bilston has worked hard for her four A levels, with grade As in Maths, and Geography, grade B in English Language and Grade C in Graphics.
Lowell Williams, Principal commented: “We’re delighted that we’ve maintained the 98% A level pass rate we established last year. To see an increase in the number of subjects where our students are securing a 100% pass rate demonstrates the commitment and dedication of students and staff alike.
“Today’s results are an indication that Dudley Sixth, our dedicated A level facility, is an excellent environment for the young people of Dudley to succeed in and achieve those essential grades for university and employment. “I, along with the staff would like to congratulate our A level students, knowing that their time with us has given them a solid foundation on which to build a successful future and career.”
