College students talk Business First
Enterprising students at Dudley College have had a welcome boost following a visit from Dudley Council's Dudley Business First team.
Samantha Jessop and Sean Cooney, who are studying for their level 3 BTEC in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship at the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy, are working to create their own new businesses in Dudley borough.
The pair welcomed the cabinet member for regeneration and a member of the Dudley Business First Team to talk to their fellow students at the Broadway Campus.
During the visit they discussed the council's Small Business Saturday campaign, which will see free business clinics from Monday 1 December to Friday 5 December and a home based business market in Dudley's Stone Street Square on Saturday 6 December.
Samantha, who is 16 years old and has impaired hearing, is working to launch her own businesses that will support young people who are deaf or have hearing difficulties.
18 year-old Sean is pursuing his dream of opening his own chain of fish and chip shops, which would offer traditional and healthy options for its customers.
Councillor Judy Foster, cabinet member for regeneration, said:
"It is inspirational to see these young adults setting up their own exciting new businesses here in Dudley borough.
"Samantha and Sean have bright futures ahead of them and I am sure that the council will continue to work with them closely as they progress their plans."
"I have always wanted to run my own businesses and the visit from Councillor Foster and other people involved in the Small Business Saturday plans was really beneficial to me."
"It was really interesting to find out how Dudley Council works with local businesses and I am looking forward to working with the Dudley Business First team in the future."
Two other pupils from the course will be exhibiting information about their business concepts and the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy at the Small Business Saturday market.
