Employer Event Launches Dudley Advance

Jan 19 2015

Dudley Advance, Dudley College's new Centre for Manufacturing and Engineering Technology, is launching its services for businesses at an Employer Breakfast on Friday 30 January 2015.

This first event will give employers the opportunity to tour the new building and view the £1m investment in equipment and machinery the college has made to support skills development within the engineering sector. Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore how their business can enhance students training by working in partnership with the Dudley Advance team.

"I'd encourage anyone involved in engineering and manufacturing to join us at our first event so they can understand the significance  Dudley Advance has in relation to training current and future employees in traditional and new engineering skills," explained Neil Thomas, Director of Dudley Advance.

"Engineering is part of our heritage and a vital element of our economy. We're extremely keen to show-off Dudley Advance to the business community as we believe it will help sustain those vital skills that the Black County is renowned for.

"We are also eager to attract businesses to the event that can play a part in the development of engineering skills by joining forces with the college to provide hands-on experience through Apprenticeships, guest speakers, site visits, mentors or real work projects for our students."

The new development, which opened on schedule in November 2014, is already providing training facilities for over 500 students on a range of engineering and manufacturing Apprenticeships and courses, all directly linked to traditional processes and emerging technologies.

At a cost of £9 million, Dudley Advance comprises of 2,800m2 of specialist teaching space spread over four floors. The building contains facilities for the study of engineering and advanced manufacturing including mechatronics, electrical engineering and engineering science, as well as traditional machine tool based engineering and CNC.

The event is free to attend and employers can drop in any time between 8 – 10am. To book your place contact Dudley Advance on 01384 363 860 or email helen.boden@dudleycol.ac.uk
