Dudley scoops double award

Dudley College is celebrating adding even more awards to its prize cabinet having scooped up two top accolades at this year’s Education Awards. At a glittering ceremony held at Edgbaston Stadium Lowell Williams, Principal of Dudley College, was named Educational Leader of the Year and Dudley College’s Peter Jones Academy was recognised for continuing to grow the number of students engaged in successful enterprise activities by being crowned Entrepreneurial Education Establishment of the Year.

The Education Awards sponsored by Birmingham City University, is the first year in which individuals and organisations who have made outstanding contributions to education in the Midlands have been recognised in this way. During the event hosted by comedian Patrick Monahan, 16 awards were made to organisations from across the educational spectrum including schools, colleges, universities and private training companies. As keynote speaker West Midlands’s Mayor Andy Street recognised the valuable economic and cultural contribution the education sector makes to the region and particularly praised the ways in which organisations were collaborating to transform the lives and employment prospects of individuals living and working in the region.

Commenting on the double victory for Dudley College Lowell Williams said “It’s been a fantastic week at the college for staff and students from our Peter Jones Enterprise Academy, as earlier in the week one of our students Jack Brooks was named National Entrepreneur of the Year by Peter Jones himself. To pick up the award for Entrepreneurial Educational Establishment of the Year too, must mean we are doing something profoundly right which our students are benefiting from.”

He added: Of course I’m personally delighted to be given an award which I’m accepting as recognition of the outstanding teaching and learning that Dudley College delivers.”

Places are still available at Dudley College’s Peter Jones Enterprise Academy for September 2017, anyone wanting to find out about courses should contact: Student Services on 01384 363 363.
