"We have to listen to ourselves, first of all" – Evelyn Glennie
Welcome to Dudley College of Technology’s Silent Gallery created and curated by Extended Diploma Art & Design Students as part of brief they responded to during in lockdown.
This makes it a first in many ways. The first set of work developed and realised outside of the traditional studio environment. The first displayed in a virtual exhibition. But above all it’s the first time these Extended Diploma Art & Design Students are exhibiting what they are capable of in such adverse circumstances. For all of them this experience has involved learning to listen to themselves.
Each piece you’ll see is a personal interpretation of a musical track they first listened to six weeks ago. They have had to deconstruct, analyse and develop creative ideas and concepts based on a series of investigative stages that finally culminate in one, original artwork.
Each piece is best experienced if you click the link and listen to the music track that inspired it, whilst viewing the creative piece.
Some responses are fuelled by a passion for a particular technique or process, others by a spark of inspiration that has gradually caught alight. All have involved the learner’s taking a bold step, listening to that intuitive inner voice and realising their imagination in a creative form.
