This qualification provides an introduction to the knowledge and skills needed to care for young children.
Course Content
The qualification is formed of a variety of optional units that cover children’s growth, learning and development. There are also units to help with self-development. This enables you to tailor the qualification to your interests.
The subject areas include (but are not limited to):
- safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
- science, technology, craft and musical activities for young children
- practical health and safety when with young children
- finding out about forest schools
- supporting babies to play, understanding play for early learning, and children’s
play and leisure activities in the community
- sharing learning experiences with children
- human growth and development
- respecting and valuing children
- investigating a vocational area
- self-development
- preparing for your next steps.
Completion of this qualification is achieved through classroom-based learning.

Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements to study for this qualification, but you must demonstrate a genuine interest in this subject, be prepared to follow high standards of behaviour and display a positive attitude to study.
You must be prepared to be working towards GCSE English and GCSE Maths, or a Functional Skill at Entry 3 level or above.
An initial assessment of your English and maths may be required depending on your qualifications to check you have the skills needed to successfully complete this course.
