Course Summary

The Engineering Technical Qualification (TQs) allows you to develop the knowledge and skills relevant to the Engineering and Manufacturing sector.

The T-Level offers students a mixture of classroom learning and ‘on-the-job’ experience during an industry placement of at least 45 days. The course will provide the knowledge and experience needed to open the door into skilled employment, further study or a higher apprenticeship in Engineering.

This technical qualification will suit someone who is not yet employed or looking to enter the industry post mainstream education. The structure of the qualification is designed to give learners the breadth of knowledge and understanding across the Engineering industry but also equips them with necessary occupational and core skills to enter the industry. This qualification is designed to support fair access and allows learners to manage and improve their own performance.

Equivalent to three A levels.

Course Content

The T Level consists of 1800 hours on average over two years including the work placement of at least 45 days. The content for the technical qualification will be based on the same standards as apprenticeships and is approved by IfATE.

The industry placement:
At the heart of the T Level is the valuable industry experience that will give you the edge over other
learners who take a purely academic pathway.

You’ll benefit from the opportunity to:
• Understand the world of work and start networking with potential future employers
• Put your studies into context and practice developing skills in a real work environment
• Gain the experience of being in a workplace setting that lasts at least 45 days
• Check this is the career you want to pursue
• Gain real experience to put on your CV and to talk about at an interview
• Potentially secure a job or apprenticeship with the employer after you have completed your T Level
• Attend your industry placement as day release, block release or a mixture of both. This could also be split across up to two employers.

The qualification will help you gain an understanding of the engineering industry and the sector and you will cover topics such as:
- Customer and client requirements
- Principles of design
- Design processes
- Communication in design

The standalone Occupational Specialism is Mechanical engineering.

We work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. Employers will
provide demonstrations and talks on the industry and where possible work placements will also be provided by the employers.

Course Assessment

The assessments for this qualification are to complete the two components of the technical qualification. These are known as the Engineering Common Core and the Occupational Specialism.

Core: Engineering Common Core (Assessed by two externally set and marked exams and an employer set project).
Occupational Specialisms: Assessed by a practical assignment for each Occupational Specialisms.

Materials

All class-based materials will be provided but you will need to provide stationary and a scientific calculator. Students are also required to purchase their own protective footwear, overalls and safety glasses

Entry Requirements

For entry onto this qualification, learners must have achieved GCSE grade 6-9 in Maths and English as well as 3 other GCSE's at grade 4 and above.
