Course Summary

Perhaps you fancy being a Web Designer, use interactive software or does creating computer animations appeal? This course offers an exciting opportunity to gain a foundation in the Digital sector that could lead you to your dream career.

Learners will complete a range of units, be organised, take assessments that will demonstrate their skills and keep a portfolio of completed assignments.

After a successful year on Level 1 you could progress to Creative Technologies BTEC – Level 2

Who is it for?

Anyone who has an interest or a flair with IT and who wants to explore the employment opportunities using IT skills and knowledge.

Course Content

The course consists of 10 units, 6 technical ones are:

• Developing Digital Information Using IT
• Creating a Website
• Creating a Spreadsheet to Solve Problems
• Designing an Interactive Presentation
• Creating an Animation
• Recording Income and Expenditure (Microsoft Excel)

The other 4 mandatory units for the program are:

• Being Organised
• Developing a Personal Progression Plan
• Working with Others
• Researching a Topic

Course Assessment

To pass this qualification you will work on a number of practical activities during the lessons and also complete a final centre set assignment for each unit. These assignments will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Materials

You need to bring pen, notebooks and folders to every lesson. It is expected that you will bring a memory stick to save and back up your work.

Employment in the IT Industry
Apprenticeship training with opportunities for further part time study

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements to study for this qualification, but you must demonstrate a genuine interest in this subject, be prepared to follow high standards of behaviour and display a positive attitude to study.

You must be prepared to be working towards GCSE English and GCSE Maths, or a Functional Skill at Entry 3 level or above.

An initial assessment of your English and maths may be required depending on your qualifications to check you have the skills needed to successfully complete this course.
