Course Summary

This course is a foundation for progression into level 2 and above progammes.
Level 1 will suit you if you are just starting out in your engineering career and require a broad range of competencies to enable safe progression into the workplace. This is a course designed for students who wish to enter the electrical installations industry.

Course Content

This course is for candidates who want to work as electricians in the building services engineering sector. It allows candidates to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the electro technology sector.

• Working safely in an engineering environment
• Carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively
• Using and communicating technical information
• Assembling electrical wiring support systems
• Wiring electrical equipment and circuits
• Personal and social development.

Course Assessment

Continual assessment means that there is no final examination. During your period of study you will build a
portfolio of evidence which will be assessed by an external assessor. Five units within the NVQ framework are studied and all of these must be passed for a Certificate to be awarded.
There will be a series of assessments during the year. These assessments will cover both academic and practical
work.

Qualifications

City & Guilds 7202 Level 1 Diploma in Electrical Installation

Progression

This qualification will allow progression to:
City & Guilds 2365 Level 2 Electrotechnical (GCSE Grade 4's must be achieved for English & Maths)

City & Guids 8202 Level 2 Technical Certificate Eletrotechnical (GCSE Grade 5's must be achieved for English & Maths)

City & Guilds 2850-23 Level 2 Certificate in Engineering - Electrical and Electronics Technology.

An Electrical Apprenticeship, studying the Level 3 Electro-technical City & Guilds 5357 qualification (GCSE Grade 4's must be achieved for English & Maths)

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements to study for this qualification, but you must demonstrate a genuine interest in this subject, be prepared to follow high standards of behaviour and display a positive attitude to study.

You must be prepared to be working towards GCSE English and GCSE Maths, or a Functional Skill at Entry 3 level or above.

An initial assessment of your English and maths may be required depending on your qualifications to check you have the skills needed to successfully complete this course.
