Course Summary

This level is ideal for school leavers considering a career in engineering and will provide a basic understanding of engineering principles.

This certificate is aimed at candidates who:
• wish for career progression within engineering
• wish to develop the skills learnt from other qualifications

Course Content

This qualification includes the following modules:

Mandatory unit:
101 Working in engineering

Optional units:
103 Carrying out basic milling techniques
104 Carrying out basic turning

Course Assessment

The assessments for this qualification are predominantly through assignments and practical/portfolio work.

Materials

All class-based materials will be provided but you will need to provide stationary, safety boots and safety glasses.

Engineering C&G 2850 Certificate - Level 1

Progression

This qualification will lead to employment in the industry of Engineering or to further study / higher education. On completion of this qualification candidates may progress into employment or to the following City & Guilds qualifications:

• 4510-11 Level 2 Certificate in Engineering Operations
• Apprenticehip programme at level 2

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements to study for this qualification, but you must demonstrate a genuine interest in this subject, be prepared to follow high standards of behaviour and display a positive attitude to study.

You must be prepared to be working towards GCSE English and GCSE Maths, or a Functional Skill at Entry 3 level or above.

An initial assessment of your English and maths may be required depending on your qualifications to check you have the skills needed to successfully complete this course.
