Course Summary

Are you an ESOL student? Are you interested in learning more about Retail and being supported to try and find a job in Retail? We offer a 2-part Retail course to ESOL students which can help you achieve this.

Course Content

The first part is our ESOL for Retail course which will equip you with some of the skills and vocabulary needed to work in a Retail environment, such as a shop or supermarket. The 5 Units that you will study on this part of the course will give you understanding and confidence in dealing with customers and selling products and services, as well as an introductory knowledge of Health and Safety and Rules and Regulations that govern Retail environments.

Course Assessment

This course runs for 6 weeks and incorporates written work to achieve each unit. On successful completion of this course, you will receive a College Certificate. Following this, you will be enrolled on the higher-level Retail SWAP Programme. This is a 10-day course, building on your Retail knowledge and supporting you to try and find a job within Retail.

Materials

All class-based materials will be provided but you will need to provide a notebook, pen and folder and be able to organise your work neatly in a folder. You may not have to pay for your course if you are in receipt of certain benefits. Please bring any evidence of benefits with you when you come to enrol.

Qualifications

ESOL for Hospitality (Introductory 8 weeks): College Certificate

Retail SWAP (2 weeks): L1 Certificate in Retail Skills

Progression

This informal qualification will lead to progression on to the L1 Hospitality SWAP (Sector-based Work Academy Programme) and potentially into employment.

Entry Requirements

For entry onto this qualification learners must have: ESOL certificates in E2 all modes. You will be expected to be able to study at Entry 3 or Level 1. If you have any ESOL qualifications from the last three years, please bring the certificates with you. You'll learn about Job roles, types of holiday, types of travel, serving food and drinks, planning and prices, Health and safety, delivering customer service , tour guiding, tourism and local visitor attractions.
