Course Content

The course will investigate behind the scenes of the film and television industries and you will gain a technical and practical understanding of film and television production skills. You will work creatively on a variety of projects and on live challenging briefs that will equip you with the skills needed to succeed in the industry.
Some of the subjects within the course may include:
• Film and television studies
• Single camera techniques
• Editing techniques
• Scriptwriting
• Short film production
• Factual production
• Advertising production.

You will be working in a professional environment using industry standard software including the latest equipment, software and Apple Mac computers. Educational visits will also form an integral part of the curriculum.

Course Assessment

You will be assessed through coursework for both practical and theoretical elements. The form of assessment on the course will assist you as you progress either into higher levels of vocational learning or to related academic qualifications, by providing independent assessment evidence of learning alongside a practical portfolio-based assessment.

Materials

Digital equipment including computers, software and cameras will be made available to you by the college. Materials that you will need to purchase independently for your course will include; a pen, note paper, memory/USB stick, memory card for use with cameras (SD minimum Class 6 - minimum of 8gb) and hard drive.

Progression

You may progress onto a degree in Media Production or a subject related to Media Production, Professional Diploma in Creative Enterprise or HNC/HND in Creative Media Production.

Career opportunities include working within the media industry industry, including television, film and advertising.

Entry Requirements

You must have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including English and maths. You will also need appropriate experience, which could include:
• Level 2 media qualification such as a BTEC or GCSE (which you could be currently studying or have already completed)
• A portfolio of work which showcases your creative flair for the subject.
• Any other demonstration of your written/verbal communication skills.

In addition, each applicant will be required to successfully complete a task during interview.
