Course Summary
The Level 1 NVQ Certificate in Hairdressing and Barbering is designed to provide the necessary skills and knowledge that prove occupational competence as a hairdressing or barbering assistant.
Course Content
The course consists of a variety of Hairdressing units:
• Introduction to the Hair & Beauty Sector
• Presenting a Professional Image in the Salon
• Follow Health and Safety in the Salon
• Working with Others
• Shampooing and Conditioning Hair
• Plaiting and Twisting Hair
• Colour Hair using Temporary Colour
• Styling Women's Hair
• Functional skills/GCSE Resit
• Work experience and voluntary work
Course Assessment
You are assessed by a variety of methods including:
• Practical observations
• Oral questioning
• Written modular tests.
• Production of a portfolio of evidence
You are expected to take part in the college's work experience programme and open days during your course of study.

A hairdressing kit costing approximately £237 is required along with protective dress code/clothing approximately- £30.

Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements to study for this qualification, but you must demonstrate a genuine interest in this subject, be prepared to follow high standards of behaviour and display a positive attitude to study.
You must be prepared to be working towards GCSE English and GCSE Maths, or a Functional Skill at Entry 3 level or above.
An initial assessment of your English and maths may be required depending on your qualifications to check you have the skills needed to successfully complete this course.
