Course Summary

The Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice is intended for those who maintain the quality of assessment from within an organisation or assessment centre.

To become a qualified Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) of vocational qualifications. This course is designed for you if you are about to be appointed, or are already working as Internal Quality Assurer but not yet qualified.

Course Content

AAn induction session will take place. The content of this will aid the completion of the first unit, which is a knowledge unit; at the end of the session participants will able to: · State the role and responsibilities of the Internal Verifier. · Identify and use verification documentation including sampling documents. · Identify sampling techniques. · Understand each stage of the quality assurance process You will then be assessed on a 1:1 basis whilst you build your portfolio of evidence; this will include at least one observation in person from your assessor, whilst you are observing and providing feedback to one of your assessors. The Centre you are working for will need to provide you with sufficient guidance and support in the IQA of: qualification standards; planning records; sampling records and any other documentation that they expect you to complete. They will allocate at least two assessors for you to quality assure who must have at least two learners each. You will take a lead role in the quality assurance of a single qualification, which will include maintaining the Centre records, arranging standardisation activities and monitoring assessor CPD records. You will also need to demonstrate that you have taken part in appropriate CPD activities for your own development.

Course Assessment

You will complete a knowledge unit and build a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your competence as an IQA. Your portfolio will also include at least one observation of your performance. Delivery will be a combination of remote and face to face, the most suitable method for the individual learner will be discussed at induction.

Materials

A ring binder, dividers and plastic wallets (if you want to use them) will be required to build your portfolio. A course reference book will be beneficial for the knowledge unit. Either: ‘Achieving your TAQA Assessor and Internal Quality Assurer Award’ – Anne Gravells. (Approx. £20) OR ‘The Best Quality Assurer’s Guide’ – Hilary Read. (Approx. £35)

Qualifications

City and Guilds Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice.

To be advised by your tutor at the end of the programme.

Entry Requirements

You must be working as an IQA, or about to be appointed as an IQA, before you can enrol on this course. You must be in a position to guide and support at least two assessors delivering the same qualification and be working for a college or training provider (referred to as the ‘Centre’) who delivers accredited learning leading to NCF or QCF qualifications. You should hold the latest QCF Assessor Award or Certificate, A1 Assessor Award or D32/33. You must be in a position to conduct Quality Assurance of vocational assessment activities and be occupationally competent in the subject you intend to IQA. Your Centre will provide you with the support of a qualified IQA, who is occupationally competent within the sector, to countersign your work. It should be noted that as a trainee IQA you will need to be in a position to be able to plan, maintain, evaluate and improve quality of assessment in your qualification area.
