Course Content

The Introductory Diploma in Land-based Studies has been designed to provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with animals and wildlife.

You will study a range of topics and units which may include:
Animal Care and health
Work Experience in the animal sector
Safe handling of animals

Course Assessment

A range of assessment methods are used throughout the course and could include written assignments, practical work, presentations and portfolios.

Materials

To study this course you will need the uniform (further details available at induction), text books and writing equipment.You will have access to learning resources, including computers, in the college library and ipoints.

Progression

Learners achieving at Merit or Distinction may enrol on the level 2 in Animal Care, subject to achieving Level 2 in numeracy and literacy Functional Skills.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements to study for this qualification, but you must demonstrate a genuine interest in this subject, be prepared to follow high standards of behaviour and display a positive attitude to study.

You must be prepared to be working towards GCSE English and GCSE Maths, or a Functional Skill at Entry 3 level or above.

An initial assessment of your English and maths may be required depending on your qualifications to check you have the skills needed to successfully complete this course.
