Course Summary
This is a basic introductory course covering the practical and job related knowledge required for a career in painting and decorating.
Course Content
The course consists of both practical and written units which must be completed to the awarding body criteria:
Health, safety and welfare in construction
Principles of building construction, information and communication
Erecting and dismantling access equipment and working platforms
Preparing surfaces for decoration
Applying paint systems by brush and roller to non-complex areas
Applying foundation and plain papers
Producing specialist decorative finishes
Work experience.
Functional skills/GCSE in maths & English
Performance improvement programme.
Course Assessment
The assessment requirements set for this qualification are multiple choice knowledge tests and practical assignments.
Materials
Protective footwear, clothing including white bib and brace overalls and writing materials are required.
Qualifications
Painting and Decorating Diploma Level 1 C&G
Progression
Progression will be onto the Level 2 Painting and Decorating qualification or into an apprenticeship.
Progression will depend on set criteria of passing the level 1, Good attendance, Good punctuality and positive attitude to learning.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements to study for this qualification, but you must demonstrate a genuine interest in this subject, be prepared to follow high standards of behaviour and display a positive attitude to study.
You must be prepared to be working towards GCSE English and GCSE Maths, or a Functional Skill at Entry 3 level or above.
An initial assessment of your English and maths may be required depending on your qualifications to check you have the skills needed to successfully complete this course.
