Course Summary

The T Level Technical Qualification in Building Services Engineering for Construction allows learners to gain an understanding of the Building Services Engineering industry and the sector.

T Levels , which follow GCSEs and are equivalent to 3 A Levels. These 2-year courses have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares students for work.

T Levels will offer students a mixture of classroom learning and ‘on-the-job’ experience during an industry placement of at least 45 days.

The T Level Technical Qualification in T Level Technical Qualification in Building Services Engineering for Construction (8710) - Plumbing and Heating Engineering will equip you to work in this industry.

This qualification is aimed at learners aged 16-19-years old who wish to work within the Building Services Engineering Industry. Currently available in England only.

A learner who completes this qualification is well placed to develop to full occupational competence with the proper support and training.

T Level courses will include the following compulsory elements:
• Technical qualification, which will include
• core theory, concepts and skills for an industry area
• Specialist skills and knowledge for an occupation or career
• Industry placement with an employer

Every T Level will include an industry placement with an employer focused on developing the practical and technical skills required for the occupation. These will last a minimum of 45 working days but can last longer. Employers can offer industry placements as a block, day release or a mix of these.

Course Content

The topics covered in this programme are designed to cover all of the academic requirements necessary qualify as an 'entry level' Building Services Engineering Technician.

• Plumbing, sanitation, and heating engineering
• Building Services Engineering (BSE) systems technology
• Scientific principles
• Applied Science for Construction and BSE systems technology
• Applied Mathematics for Construction and BSE engineering
• Construction and BSE measurement principles
• Construction and BSE information and data principles
• Relationship management in the construction and BSE sectors
• Digital technology in construction and BSE
• Construction commercial/business principles
• Building Services Engineering (BSE) systems technology
• Planned maintenance and diagnostics principles for BSE systems
• Management of Health & Safety the construction and BSE sectors
• Legislation and Regulation governing the Construction and BSE sectors
• Sustainability and Renewable Energy technologies
• Sustainability and Energy Management principles
• Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS)
• Building Information Management Systems (BIMS)

Every T Level will include an industry placement with an employer focused on developing the practical and technical skills required for the occupation. These will last a minimum of 45 working days but can last longer. Employers can offer industry placements as a block, day release or a mix of these.

Course Assessment

The T Level in Building Services Engineering comprises a common core and the Occupational specialism Plumbing and Heating engineering.

The common Core is assessed by two externally set exams (Learners normally sit these exams at the end of year 2 of the programme). The learners chosen Occupational Specialism is assessed by a combination of centre marked assignments and a 'synoptic' practical workshop assessment. Learners also have to complete an employer set project and meet the behaviours of the industrial placement.

Note: All components of the assessment criteria shown above must be achieved to pass the qualification.
Students who pass all the elements of their T Level will get a nationally recognised certificate showing an overall grade of pass, merit or distinction. It will also set out the details of what students have achieved on the course.

Materials

Stationery, calculator, notepad. All learners will need safety boots.

Financial support may be available for leanres from low income households.

Qualifications

On successful completion you will hold a T Level Technical Qualification in Building Services Engineering for Construction (8710) - Plumbing and Heating Engineering.

Progression

T Levels are a nationally recognised programme which are equivalent to 3 A levels, and have been allocated UCAS points. You must achieve at least an overall pass

On completion of this T level you can go to higher education/ university or progress into employment.

Entry Requirements

The entry requirements for the Level 3 T Level in Building Services Engineering are based on the key subject areas of Maths, English and Science (Physics and or Chemistry). Applicants would be expected to have achieved the key subjects at GCSE grade 5 or above (or equivalent Level 2).
