Course Content

This course would suit students interested in the creative process of technical theatre. The purpose of the course is to enable students to be trained to a professional standard in the use of stage and theatre-related equipment.
You will have the opportunity to develop technical skills in lighting, live sound and visual imagery and will work closely with performing arts courses to develop stage management skills. This requires you to work on productions that are staged in our state-of-the-art theatre.

You will work on a wide range of internal and external performances including music gigs, musical theatre, plays, dance and fashion shows. Over two years you will also work as part of the technical crew for the Evolve Theatre, assisting visiting companies and gaining valuable work experience in a professional working environment.

Course Assessment

You will be assessed through a range of practical and written assignments. External moderation of some units is likely.

Materials

You will be required to bring a pair of steel toe-capped boots for this qualification and black clothing. There will be an opportunity for work experience at the world’s Largent hire company PRG.

Progression

Specialist drama schools, Foundation degree or BA (Hons) degree in stage technology, lighting design, live sound or stage management.

Career options: Theatre technician, lighting and sound designer, stage manager, production designer.

Entry Requirements

You must attend an interview and should have 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English or a First Diploma in Performing Arts at a Merit.
