Course Summary

These qualifications aim to:
• give learners the introductory skills and knowledge to start a
career in sport of progress with employment in the sector
• prepare learners for higher or further education, through full-time
or part-time study

Course Content

To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate or Diploma in Sport, learners
are required to successfully complete a number of mandatory units
and a number of optional units.
To be awarded the Level 2 Certificate in Sport (Sports Coaching),
learners are required to successfully complete 3 mandatory units
and 1 optional unit.
To be awarded the Level 2 Diploma in Sport (Sports Coaching),
learners are required to successfully complete 3 mandatory units
and 4 optional units.
These qualifications consist of 3 graded mandatory units:
• Participating in sport (6 credits)
• Sports coaching (6 credits)
• Developing sporting skills and tactical awareness (6 credits)

Course Assessment

Learners will be assesed through a variety of methods from written assignments, practical observations, presentations, discussions, video recordings and workbooks.

Materials

General stationery and a USB pen need to be provided by the learner. As a sports department, we pride ourselves on our reputation and professionalism in the area. This is evident in the way our students look around the college and, more importantly, whilst representing Dudley College at sports events and during work placements.

We have put a dress code package together at a cost of approximately £100 based on the needs of students for their course, Team Sports training and work experience.

You will need to pre-order the package during enrolment.

NCFE L2 Diploma in Sports Coaching

Progression

Learners who achieve these qualifications could progress to:
• Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing
• Intermediate Apprenticeship in Exercise and Fitness
• Intermediate Apprenticeship in Activity Leadership
• Level 3 Certificate, Diploma or Extended Diploma in Sport
• Level 3 Award in Nutrition for Physical Activity

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSE passes at grade 3 or above including English. Positive school report reference required. A BTEC or other equivalent foundation level course awarded at a pass grade. A functional skills qualification at Entry Level 3. An interest in working within the sports/leisure industry and participation in a variety of sports would be desirable.

Positive reference from existing college tutor/school report that confirms attendance, punctuality and character.
