Course Summary

The course provides the learners with the potential opportunity to progress to employment, or progress within employment in a wide range of junior job roles across the public services sector.
The course will provide opportunities for the development of transferable skills related to study and vocational application that provide a platform for success both within the sector and elsewhere.

This qualification prepares learners who are looking towards a career in a Uniformed Service.The course is designed to equip learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for success when moving towards a career in the uniformed and non-uniformed services, for example, police, emergency fire services, security, prison services or the armed services.

Course Content

This qualification includes the following 4 mandatory units.

• The Role and Work of the Public Services.
• Working Skills in the Public Sector;
• Citizenship, Society and the Public Services and
• Crime and its Effects on Society and Individuals.

In addition there will be specialist units ranging from Employment in Public Services; Land Navigation; Adventure Activities and many more, plus two optional units chosen from the following:

• Citizenship, the Individual and Society
• Health and Safety in the Public Service Workplace
• Adventurous Activities and Teamwork for the Public Services
• Sport and Recreation in the Public Services
• Land Navigation by Map and Compass
• Law and its Impact on the Individual in Public Services
• Crime and its Effects on Society
• Community and Cultural Awareness
• Driving and the Public Services
• Expedition Skills in Public Services
• Fundamentals of Nautical Studies
• Attending Emergency Incidents in Public
• Security Procedures in the Public Services
• Research in Public Services
• Volunteering in Public Services
• ICT and the Public Services

As part of your study programme you will also be required to study English and maths at appropriate levels.

Course Assessment

Two of the mandatory units will be externally assessed. All other units will be assessed and graded with a Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Materials

All class-based materials will be provided but you will need to provide the following at an additional cost:

• Residential £75 approximately
• Dress code - Uniform approximately £30-50

Outdoor clothing will be required.

Qualifications

Uniformed Services NCFE Level 2

Progression

This qualification will lead to employment in the Uniformed/Non Uniformed Services, for example, police, emergency fire services, security, prison services or the armed services dependent on your age.

You could progress to the NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Public Services, however you must achieve a merit standard in NCFE Level 2 Diploma in Public Services and have passed relevant functional skills.

Your attendance and behaviour record will also be taken into consideration at this stage. This course also offers the skills and qualities needed to be successful in any workplace.

Entry Requirements

For entry onto this qualification learners must have: a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above to include English and Maths or a full Level 1 Qualification having achieved at least a Merit grade (if applicable). A good reference from your previous educational establishment or employer.
