Our certificates in hairdressing are designed to build on your interest and passion for the hairdressing industry, covering a wide range of skills.

This qualification is designed for people who want to prepare for further learning or training in the hair and beauty sector.

Course Content

The course consists of a variety of Hairdressing units:

• Introduction to the Hair & Beauty Sector
• Presenting a Professional Image in the Salon
• Follow Health and Safety in the Salon
• Working with Others
• Shampooing and Conditioning Hair
• Plaiting and Twisting Hair
• Colour Hair using Temporary Colour
• Styling Women's Hair
• Functional skills/GCSE Resit
• Work experience and voluntary work

Course Assessment

You are assessed by a variety of methods including:
• Practical observations
• Oral questioning
• Written modular tests.
• Production of a portfolio of evidence
You are expected to take part in the college's work experience programme and open days during your course of study.

Employer Benefits

A Salon assistant capable of meeting and greeting clients in a professional manner, preparing them for treatments and services working alongside other qualified members of the salon.

Materials

A hairdressing kit costing approximately £237 is required along with protective dress code/clothing approximately- £30.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements to study for this qualification, but you must demonstrate a genuine interest in this subject, be prepared to follow high standards of behaviour and display a positive attitude to study.

You must be prepared to be working towards GCSE English and GCSE Maths, or a Functional Skill at Entry 3 level or above.

An initial assessment of your English and maths may be required depending on your qualifications to check you have the skills needed to successfully complete this course.
